What Korean products help very dry skin in winter?
For very dry skin in winter, the trick is layering: use a lightweight moisturiser to draw in water, then seal it with a richer barrier cream so it does not evaporate. From our Korean cosmetics range, a humectant lotion like COSRX OIL-FREE Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion pairs well with a ceramide cream such as PURITO Dermide Relief Barrier Moisturizer.
Below we explain what holds water in the skin, what locks it in, and how to add active products without irritation.
For very dry, flaky skin that needs a ceramide-rich sealing layer to lock moisture in overnight.
For sensitised, easily irritated dry skin that wants a calming centela-based barrier cream.
For those who want a lightweight humectant first layer that hydrates without a heavy feel.
For dry skin that also wants to work on texture, used sparingly at night under a barrier cream.
For the delicate eye area when dryness and fine lines show more in cold weather.
How to choose: water-binding vs sealing layers
Think in two steps. A humectant layer attracts and holds water in the skin; a barrier or occlusive layer sits on top and stops that water from leaving. For winter, you usually want both, applied one after the other.
Look for ingredients like ceramides and centella in the sealing step, since they support a weakened, flaky barrier. If you only use a light lotion, dry skin can still feel tight by evening, which is why the richer cream matters when it is cold.
What to avoid when skin is very dry
Skip strong exfoliating acids and harsh cleansers on the days your skin feels raw or stinging, as they can thin an already fragile barrier. Introduce any active such as retinal slowly rather than every night.
Always patch test a new product on your inner arm or jaw for a couple of days before applying it all over, especially in winter when skin is more reactive.
How to use it in a routine
After cleansing, apply the humectant lotion to slightly damp skin so it has water to hold onto. Follow with a barrier cream while the lotion is still tacky to lock everything in.
At night, if you want to work on texture or firmness, apply a retinal or eye cream first on dry skin, wait a minute, then seal with your barrier cream. Start these actives two to three nights a week and build up gradually.
Fitting it together for winter
- Day: gentle cleanse, COSRX lotion, then a barrier cream, plus sunscreen.
- Night: cleanse, optional active (retinal or eye cream), then a rich sealing cream.
- Adjust: on very tight days, use only humectant plus barrier cream and pause actives.
